Dream in Green is excited to celebrate 10 years of success at their Living the Dream Annual Fundraiser and Green Innovators Awards at The Palms Hotel & Spa on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 7 to 11 pm. This milestone event brings together South Florida’s environmentally conscious community to support sustainability in our community. We will celebrate DIG’s success and showcase the Green Innovator Awards recipients. The Green Innovator Awards will recognize outstanding businesses, governments and individuals for their environmental leadership, vision and stewardship in South Florida.
Ten years ago the three founders of Dream in Green came together with a shared vision of educating children on climate change, hoping to instill long term generational changes in behavior. Now, a decade later, Dream in Green has reached 66,000 children and roughly 22,000 adults through their collection of educational programs. “We have far exceeded our initial goals after 10 years of program implementation. As we begin the 11th year of the Green Schools Challenge, we continue to improve the program and enhance its impact on youngsters based on the valuable lessons we have learned over the years.” said Nick Gunia, Co-Founder of Dream in Green
The Green Schools Challenge is Dream in Green’s flagship program which engages students in hands-on activities to save energy and water in schools and teaches them about the links between energy, water, waste, the environment, climate change and community sustainability. Dream in Green’s second largest program, the Water and Energy, Learning and Behavior (WE-LAB), was designed to educate students, teachers and community residents about the fundamental relationship between water and energy. WE-LAB provides participants low-to-no-cost solutions that help them save money while promoting behaviors that benefit the entire community. In 10 years, participating schools have helped to conserve 23.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity, which saved 2.3 million dollars and reduced or offset 35.4 million pounds of carbon emissions.
Dream in Green invites the public to join us in celebrating this milestone. An online auction will be activated one month prior to our event. All proceeds will go towards funding Dream in Green’s expansion of its educational programs to have a greater reach in South Florida and impact on behavioral changes and sustainable practices.
