After a successful pilot year with the School District of Palm Beach (the District), Dream in Green proudly launched its Green Schools Challenge program in August 2023 for the 2023-2024 academic year. This expansion was inaugurated with a teacher professional development event co-hosted by the District’s Division of Facilities Management Environmental & Conservation Services Department. Educators actively engaged with DIG staff, seeking clarification, and strategizing for their participation in this year’s competition. Over 25 schools have eagerly joined the program, committing to integrate sustainability lessons into their classrooms and bolster the District’s sustainability objectives.
The District’s dedication to sustainable practices has not gone unnoticed. It has earned accolades both statewide and nationally for its unwavering commitment. The State of Florida has bestowed upon the District the esteemed title of a Gold Level Florida Green School District. Additionally, on a national scale, the District has been honored with the prestigious U.S. Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools Green District Award.
Sustainability, as defined by the Environmental Protection Agency, is the maintenance of conditions that enable humans and nature to coexist in productive harmony, supporting both present and future generations. The District upholds this vital principle by nurturing green schools, orchestrating school-based waste reduction initiatives, and fostering resource conservation through comprehensive education and awareness programs. DIG is honored to partner with Palm Beach County to provide quality programming and stewardship opportunities for teachers and students.
