The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Goals Conference was successfully held June 4-5, 2015 at the Hilton Miami Downtown. The yearly event brings together business and community leaders to develop the Chamber’s programming and goals, as well as the vision that moves the community forward in the upcoming year. Along with local sustainability businesses and community green leaders and advocates, including Miami-Dade Clerk of the Courts Harvey Ruvin, Dream in Green participated in the Sustainability, Environment and Energy (SEE) committee workshop, which was sponsored by Florida Power & Light.
SEE Committee chair Irela Bagué, President of the Bagué Group, said, “In South Florida the Environment is the Economy, therefore it is important to strike the right balance to protect our natural resources and grow our economy sustainably.”
The SEE committee’s 2015 priorities include supporting and advocating for:
- Continued funding of water and sewer upgrades in Miami-Dade County
- Sustainable transportation solutions to improve Miami-Dade’s traffic challenges through cross committee collaboration
- Implementation of resilient community initiatives and adaptation strategies and action on the recommendations of the Miami-Dade Sea Level Rise Task Force and South Florida Regional Climate Compact
- Continued funding for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan including Miami-Dade projects
