January 2, 2022 – Miami, FL – Dream in Green (DIG) is excited to officially launch its newest initiative Recyclepedia MDC! Recyclepedia MDC is an application and website dedicated to providing Miami-Dade County residents location-specific recycling and waste management information. The overall goal of Recyclepedia is to decrease recycling contamination while increasing waste management efforts achieved by providing accurate recycling information through a free platform available to residents at their fingertips.

Miami-Dade County (MDC) is made up of 34 municipalities and is the most populous county in Florida. While the County provides recycling services for a portion of those municipalities, many of them provide their own services through different vendors. Because of this, there is a lack of recycling protocols applicable to all MDC residents, almost 3 million people. Recyclepeida MDC addresses this by allowing the user to select their municipality to receive the most up-to-date list of items that are accepted in their curbside recycling bins.

The other issue Recyclepedia MDC aims to tackle, in addition to getting residents to recycle right, is to provide locations for items not accepted in curbside programs but can be recycled/disposed of by third parties. It is a common misconception that just because an item can be recycled, it is accepted in any curbside program. Recyclepedia MDC provides locations where residents can drop off items at businesses or collection sites so that they can be disposed of properly. This includes but is not limited to, old phones and tablets, clothing items, non-recyclable plastics, household chemicals/paints, etc.

DIG partnered with Green Solutions Technology to develop the Android application and website. Funding for this initiative was generously provided by The Children’s Trust through the 2021 Innovation Grant and DIG thanks them for their continued support. Recyclepedia is available in English, Spanish and Haitian-Creole.

Moving forward DIG will constantly update the platform in order to provide the most accurate recycling information should any municipalities make changes to their curbside programs. DIG also hopes to expand the application to include an iOS version as well.

Recyclepedia MDC is available to download in the Google Play store or you can visit the website at https://recyclepediamdc.net. For more information please email gro.neergnimaerdnull@ofni.
